Understanding Gynecomastia Surgery in Scottsdale, AZ

Gynecomastia is enlarged breast tissue in men. It often appears during puberty, with hormone changes later in life, or alongside certain medications or weight gain, and it can affect one side or both.

Surgery removes what diet and training cannot touch. Dr. Fayad first works out what is causing the fullness, because that decides the technique.

When the Fullness Is Mostly Fat

Called pseudogynecomastia, this softer fullness is usually treated with liposuction through a few small entry points. It is the same technique behind our chest liposuction.

When There Is Firm Gland Tissue

A rubbery disc behind the nipple is glandular tissue. It is removed through a short incision along the lower edge of the areola, usually together with liposuction to smooth the surrounding chest.

Signs You May Be a Good Candidate

Most men who ask us about gynecomastia surgery have already tried the gym. You may be a candidate if these sound familiar.

  • Puffy or cone-shaped nipples that show through fitted shirts
  • Chest fullness that stays after months of steady diet and training
  • A firm, rubbery disc under one or both nipples
  • One side noticeably fuller than the other
  • Avoiding the pool, the beach or the locker room
  • Good general health and a stable weight

An Awake Procedure, Without General Anesthesia

Gynecomastia surgery is part of our awake surgery menu. The chest is numbed with local anesthetic and you stay awake throughout, so there is no breathing tube and no recovery from general anesthesia.

Liposuction is the core of most gynecomastia cases, and it is the procedure Dr. Fayad trained in specifically. You can read more about the approach on our awake liposuction page.

Our Gynecomastia Surgery Process

From the first visit to the last check, you see the same surgeon in the same office.

1

Your Consultation With Dr. Fayad

Every consultation is one on one with Dr. Fayad. He examines the chest to tell gland from fat, checks skin quality, reviews your health history and medications, then gives you a plan and a final quote.

2

Procedure Day

The chest is numbed and fat is removed with liposuction through small entry points. When firm gland is present, it is taken out through the areola incision. You go home the same day.

3

The First Weeks of Recovery

You wear a compression vest to support the chest while swelling settles. Many men are back at a desk within several days and lifting after a few weeks, once Dr. Fayad clears it.

4

Follow-Up Visits

We see you back to check healing and adjust the garment schedule. Swelling fades gradually, and the final chest contour is usually clear after a few months.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gynecomastia Surgery

How much does gynecomastia surgery cost in Scottsdale, AZ?

The price depends on how much gland and fat need to be removed and whether loose skin needs attention. Dr. Fayad gives you a final quote after your one-on-one consultation, once he has examined your chest. Payment options are listed on our financing page.

Can diet and exercise get rid of gynecomastia?

Weight loss can shrink the fatty part of a full chest. Glandular breast tissue does not respond to diet or training, so a firm disc under the nipple usually stays until it is removed surgically.

Will I be awake during gynecomastia surgery?

Yes. Gynecomastia surgery is one of our awake procedures: the chest is numbed with local anesthetic and you stay awake, without general anesthesia. You go home the same day.

How long is recovery after gynecomastia surgery?

You wear a compression vest for several weeks while swelling settles. Many men return to desk work within several days and to heavy lifting after a few weeks, once Dr. Fayad clears it. The final chest contour is usually clear after a few months.

Where are the scars after gynecomastia surgery?

Liposuction uses a few small entry points. When gland is removed, the incision runs along the lower edge of the areola, where the change in skin colour helps it blend in. Scars fade gradually over the following months.

Can gynecomastia come back after surgery?

Glandular tissue that has been removed does not usually grow back. Significant weight gain, steroid use or certain medications can create new fullness, so Dr. Fayad reviews your health history and medications before surgery.
