If you have been looking up gynecomastia surgery cost in Arizona, you have probably seen numbers all over the map. One clinic lists a single figure, another gives a five-figure range, and a third will not say anything until you come in. This guide explains what actually goes into the price, why quotes in the Phoenix area vary so much, and what to ask so you can compare offers fairly. It is written for men in Chandler and the East Valley, including Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe and Scottsdale.
The short answer: what gynecomastia surgery costs
Prices depend on how much tissue needs to come out, what kind of tissue it is, and how you are put to sleep (or not) for the procedure. Here is how the numbers look:
At VIA Health & Medspa in Chandler: our gynecomastia page lists an estimated range of $2,500 to $6,000. That is an estimate. Your final quote is set after a personal consultation with Dr. Wissam Fayad.
Typical range in the Phoenix area; your quote comes at consultation: published prices from surgical practices around Phoenix, Scottsdale and Gilbert run from roughly $5,000 to $15,000 or more, with many all-in quotes in the $7,000 to $14,000 band when a hospital or surgery center and general anesthesia are included.
National reference point: The Aesthetic Society’s 2022 national databank put the average cost of gynecomastia surgery at about $4,385. That figure covers standard surgeon and facility fees only and leaves out anesthesia, tests, prescriptions and garments.
So why can two quotes for “the same surgery” be thousands of dollars apart? Mostly because of what is bundled in.
What goes into the price
1. The type of tissue being removed
Gynecomastia is the benign enlargement of male breast tissue. Sometimes the fullness is mostly fat, sometimes it is mostly firm glandular tissue, and often it is both. Fat is usually removed with liposuction through small incisions. Firm gland is removed directly through a small incision, typically along the edge of the areola. A case that needs both techniques takes more time, which usually means a higher fee.
2. How much tissue there is
A small, puffy area under the nipple is a shorter procedure than a large amount of tissue across the whole chest. Surgeons often describe gynecomastia in grades. Higher grades can involve loose skin as well, which may change the plan and the price.
3. Anesthesia: the biggest swing factor
This is where Arizona prices diverge the most. Surgery under general anesthesia usually adds an anesthesia provider’s fee and an operating-room or hospital facility fee. Awake surgery under local anesthesia avoids much of that. At VIA, gynecomastia surgery can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia, depending on the extent of your case and what you prefer. Our awake option is done under local anesthesia, and we discuss which approach fits you at your consultation. If you want the details, read our guide to local vs general anesthesia for gynecomastia surgery.
4. Add-ons such as skin tightening
Some men have a little loose skin once the tissue is gone. VIA offers awake gynecomastia paired with Quantum Ignite RF, a radiofrequency skin-tightening treatment. Ask whether any add-on is included in a quote or priced separately, so you are comparing like with like.
5. What is bundled in
Before you compare two numbers, ask whether each one includes:
The surgeon’s fee
Facility or operating-room fees
Anesthesia fees
Pre-op tests, if any are needed
Prescription pain medication
Your compression garment
Follow-up visits
A low headline price that leaves out three of those items can end up costing more than a higher, all-in quote.

Does insurance cover gynecomastia surgery?
Usually not. Most insurers treat gynecomastia surgery as cosmetic. Coverage is uncommon and, when it happens, typically depends on documented medical criteria set by your plan. If you want to check, call your insurer and ask what their policy requires. Most of our patients plan to pay out of pocket.
Financing and consultation fees at VIA
Flexible financing is available at VIA, so you can spread the cost into monthly payments instead of paying it all at once. We will walk you through the options at your visit.
A prepayment is required to book a consultation. The good news is that it is applied toward your procedure cost if you go ahead, so it is not money lost.
Why cheaper is not always better, and pricier is not always safer
It is tempting to pick the lowest number, or to assume the most expensive surgeon must be the best. Neither shortcut works well. A better approach:
Look at real results. Ask to see before-and-after photos of chests similar to yours.
Ask who does the surgery. At VIA, Dr. Fayad leads every gynecomastia correction himself.
Understand the plan. You should leave the consultation knowing whether you need liposuction, gland removal or both, and why.
Ask about recovery. Time off work is a real cost too. See our gynecomastia surgery recovery timeline.
Is the surgery worth the money?
That is a personal call, but here is what the surgery offers. When the glandular tissue and fat cells are removed, they do not grow back, so results are generally permanent. Significant weight gain, some medications or an untreated hormonal cause can bring back fullness, so a stable weight helps protect your result. For many men, the payoff is simple: clothes fit better and they stop hiding their chest at the gym, the pool or on the lake.
Getting an accurate quote in Chandler
The only way to get a real number is an in-person exam. At your consultation, Dr. Fayad checks the amount of gland, fat and skin, talks through your goals, confirms the likely cause, and builds a plan. You leave with a clear quote that reflects your chest, not an average.

Frequently asked questions
How much does gynecomastia surgery cost in Arizona?
Typical range in the Phoenix area; your quote comes at consultation: roughly $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the practice and what is included. VIA’s own gynecomastia page lists an estimated $2,500 to $6,000 in Chandler, with the final price set after your consultation.
Is gyno surgery worth the money?
For men whose chest fullness has not improved with diet, exercise or treating an underlying cause, surgery is the only way to remove glandular tissue. Results are generally permanent, which is why many men see it as a one-time investment.
What is stage 4 gynecomastia, and does it cost more?
Higher grades usually mean more tissue and sometimes loose, sagging skin. These cases can take longer and may need extra steps, so they often cost more. Dr. Fayad will tell you which category you fall into at your exam.
Why is awake gynecomastia surgery often less expensive?
Under local anesthesia you avoid much of the general-anesthesia and hospital overhead. Whether awake surgery is right for you depends on your case, which is decided at consultation.
Is there a fee for the consultation?
Yes, VIA requires a prepayment for consultations. It is applied toward your procedure cost if you move forward.
